The School for Police K9 Handlers Courses are primarily for agencies or departments or handlers who have purchased a K9 from Alpha K-9. These courses, however, can also serve as training for students who have purchased a dog elsewhere. The small class size and low student:instructor ratio allows the Randy Hare School for Dog Handlers to customize a training program to meet the needs of the dog and handler team. This training could be for either a new dog/handler, a trained dog being transferred to a new handler or a handler and dog team that needs help problem solving specific training issues.
Handlers Course for Single Purpose Detection Canine
2 week course (including the weekends) - 120 HRS
$5000/handler includes $500 course deposit, tuition and course materials
In the two week "Detection Dog Handlers Course" the handler learns the concepts of Randy's new "On Target Method" and learns how it differs from the "Traditional Methods". During the training the handler learns the art of timing in rewarding the dog properly and gains a basic understanding of the training method in order to be a more effective and efficient handler. The handler learns how to maintain the dog's training in a way that allows the dog to continue to understand that his eyes and ears mean nothing when it comes to earning the reward object. This course is intended for various detection disciplines, i.e. narcotics, explosives, cadaver or search & rescue..
Handlers Course for Dual Purpose Police Canine
3 week course (including the weekends) - 160 HRS
$6000/handler includes $500 course deposit, tuition and course materials
Both detection and patrol work are covered in the Dual Purpose Canine Handlers Course. Detection can include narcotics, explosives or other detection specialities as well as all other aspects of police patrol work. These include Building Search, Apprehension, and Tracking. This course is suitable for dogs purchased from Alpha K-9 as well as for dogs trained by others. Many departments choose to send their canine and handler teams through this course when the dog is transferred to a new handler.
